SDF denies targeting Tel Abyad city in Syria’s Raqqa countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied on Wednesday that it targeted the city of Tel Abyad, which is under the control of the Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition factions (SNA) in northern Syria.

The Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad areas have been under the control of the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions since late 2019, after they invaded the area, causing the displacement of nearly 300,000 indigenous people, according to human rights reports.

This came after pro-Syrian opposition websites and pages published news of missile strikes carried out by SDF targeting the center of Tel Abyad city.

Five people were killed on Wednesday afternoon and about twenty others were injured in an explosion in the center of Tel Abyad city.

The explosion targeted a military center near Tel Abyad Hospital. Local sources suggested that the targeting was carried out by Russian drones.

The SDF media center said in a statement that what was published about SDF’s targeting the city of Tel Abyad was false information.

“Our forces did not carry out any military operations in the area during the past hours,” the statement added.

“The information we have confirms that an unidentified drone carried out the targeting,” it added.
