Officials in Syria’s Manbij to launch campaign to support disabled people
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Haitham al-Hamdo, director of the Office of Persons with Disabilities affiliated with the Social Affairs and Labor Committee in Manbij, north Syria, said on Sunday that they are launching a campaign under the slogan “With your support, we will achieve” in order to support disabled people in the city.
The campaign came in response to the little support and the great marginalization that persons with disabilities receive in Manbij.
The campaign will be fundraising from people in Manbij, according to what al-Hamdo told North Press.
The number of people registered with the office has reached 3,586 people of all kinds of disabilities, including physical, intellectual, auditory, and visual disabilities.
Furthermore, there are 39 people, including 15 children who need limbs fitted after amputations due to the Syrian war.
Al-Hamdo said that “The support provided to the office is timid and it is not commensurate with the required needs.”
“Through the campaign, the office seeks to provide even a small part of the support that humanitarian organizations operating in northeast Syria failed to do,” he added.
“The priority will be given to prosthetic limb fitting, in addition to completing the Institute for Persons with Disabilities in Manbij. This institute will be for teaching disabled people professions and making them active members of the society,” he said.
