Residents of Kobani say Turkey wants to displace people of NE Syria

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Kobani, north Syria, believe that Turkey’s goal of threatening the border areas is to implement political agendas that serve its project to settle Syrian refugees.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Monday evening an impending military operation into northern Syria to establish a 30 km-deep safe zone along the southern border.

Erdogan unveiled early this month a new project in several parts of northern Syria, which will allow the return of one million Syrian refugees to those areas.

Salih Bozo, 38, a resident of Kobani, said that “Turkey claims to establish a safe area, but we do believe that it is a plan for demographic change for the region.”

“Turkey will displace the original population and settle others who are loyal to it in the border area,” he added.

“The residents of Kobani have never harmed Turkey. Not a single bullet has been fired at them,” Bozo said.

Bozo called on the countries concerning with the Syrian issue to intervene and prove a serious attitude towards the Turkish threats.

Muhammad Ibrahim, 65 said that “Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis the Turkish threats have continued. They want to steal the residents’ property under the pretext of establishing a safe zone. For whom is the safe zone?”

“It wants to displace its original people who have the land and replace them with strangers,” he added.
