Turkish-backed factions arrest nine Kurds in north Syria’s Afrin
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), arrested nine civilians of the Kurds in the region of Afrin, north of Aleppo governorate.
During the past few days, the SNA factions stormed several house of the original inhabitants of the Kurds, searched them, and looted their contents, in addition to the arrest of nine civilians, the Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) reported on Monday.
Turkey has occupied the city of Afrin and its countryside since March 2018, following a military invasion by the Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions called “Olive Branch”. Since then, the region has gone through killing incidents, trees’ cutting and arrests.
Before that, Afrin was run by a Kurdish-majority autonomous administration.
Since the beginning of 2022, the SNA factions have arrested 257 civilians from Afrin and its countryside, including 10 children and 29 women, in addition to 90 sick people, according to the VDC-NSY.
