Displaced people in camp in north Syria protest against Turkish-backed faction

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Muhammadiyah camp in the country of Afrin, north Aleppo, witnessed on Sunday evening tension after members of the Turkish-backed Civil Police faction beat a displaced person in the camp.

“The leader of the Civil Police station in Muhammadiyah camp and his members hit a person in the camp after the man refused to sign confessions attributed to him,” a North Press witness said.

“The incident angered the residents of the camp who gathered in front of the police station, to which the latter shot in the air to disperse the protesters,” the source added.

The city of Afrin and the surrounding countryside have been under the control of the Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), since 2018.

The region has been witnessing security chaos including explosions, arrests, infighting and killings amidst the inability of those factions to maintain the security there.
