Airstrikes hit IRGC convoy east of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified aircrafts targeted on Friday a convoy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Abu Kamal desert in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor governorate, east Syria.
“Unidentified aircrafts said to be Israeli targeted an IRGC convoy on the outskirts of Abu Kamal desert on Syria-Iraq border with two airstrikes,” a military source of the Syrian government forces in Abu Kamal region said.
“The two airstrikes did not cause human losses. Only material losses were recorded,” the source who preferred to be unnamed added.
The convoy was targeted when exiting a headquarters in Abu Kamal, heading towards the Syria-Iraq border, according to the source.
Iranian-backed militias and the government forces have been running vast swathes in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor (west of the Euphrates River) since 2017 following the expulsion of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
Iran has officially announced its support to the Syrian president against the Syrian opposition factions since the eruption of the war in Syria in 2011.
It has backed and formed military militias, which work to fulfill Iran’s ambition in Syria, including National Defense Forces (NDF), Liwa Fatemiyoun, Hashemiyoun and Liwa Zainebiyoun.
Iran continues to recruit Syrians within the ranks of factions it backs, extorting the deteriorating economic conditions Syria is witnessing.
There are about 30 recruiting centers deploying in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
