DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Three people were killed Friday night in Israeli bombardment on points southern Syria’s capital, Damascus.
“At nearly 11 p.m. on Friday, the Israeli enemy carried out an aggression with surface-to-surface missiles from the direction of occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in south of Damascus,” said SANA, the state-run news agency, citing a military source as saying.
“The Army air defenses intercepted the missiles’ aggression and downed most of them,” SANA added.
The news agency did not mention any further details about the victims.
On May 13, Israeli Air Force bombed several targets near the northwestern Syrian city of Masyaf in Hama countryside, killing five people and injuring seven, including a child.
Days later, Israel’s Channel 13 news reported that Russian forces opened fire on Israeli jets with advanced S-300 anti-aircraft missiles after the Israeli warplanes finished their Masyaf attack.
Forbes said that Russia was possibly “attempting to send a signal to Israel by firing the system for the first time. If so, it wouldn’t be Moscow’s first attempt to signal its desire for Israel to limit its air campaign over Syria.”
On April 24, four Syrian soldiers were killed and three were injured in Israeli bombardment on the vicinity of Damascus.
On Thursday, the Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said that his country would not sit still in case of an Israeli attack.
“Syria will not hesitate to exercise its right to defend its land and its people in all the ways guaranteed by the UN Charter and the provisions of international law,” Mikdad said.
