Global Coalition provides $219M assistance to Syria, Iraq
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) provided on Sunday about $219 million to the “partner forces in Syria and Iraq”, CJTF-OIR said in a statement.
CJTF-OIR is the military component of a Global Coalition of 79 nations and five international organizations who are operating in northeast Syria and Iraq to support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Iraqi army in securing the enduring defeat of ISIS.
This assistance came through Counter-ISIS Train and Equip Fund (CTEF) for the first quarter of 2022.
CTEF is a biennial US appropriation designed to bridge Partner Forces capability gaps to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS.
“Resources provided by CTEF have helped improve the capabilities of our Partner Forces and contribute to regional security in the Middle East,” said a representative of the CJTF-OIR Directorate of Military Assistance.
“CTEF resources assist our partners in enhancing their security capacity and directly contribute to ensuring the continued defeat of Daesh [ISIS],” the representative added.
Since its start in 2014, the CTEF has given more than $8.9 billion in supplies including armored military vehicles, forklifts, ambulances, wreckers, fuel and water tankers as well as different communication assets.
The statement stressed that the program contributes to achieving progress in the battle against ISIS and supporting sustainable stability and security in Iraq and Syria.
