Syria Claims US Aid to ‘Terrorist Organizations’ Ravaged Syria’s Economy

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A statement published Friday by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said that US aid to “terrorist organizations” in northeastern and northwestern Syria has devastated Syria’s economy.

On Thursday, the US Department of the Treasury issued a general license granting exemptions from the Caesar Act to areas of northeast and northwest Syria which are outside of the Syrian government control.

The Caesar Act is the US legislation signed by the Trump Administration in December 2019 to sanction the Syrian government for war crimes against the Syrian population.

“Providing aid and supply to armed terrorist organizations in northeastern and northwestern Syria by the US and its Western tools has devastated Syria’s economic potentials,” the statement read.

“As it led to the looting of Syria’ resources of cotton, oil, wheat and antiquities,” the statement added.

“The allegations included in the statement of the US administration is nothing but a continuation of this destructive approach,” it claimed.

This move contradicts the US international commitments to combat terrorism and the commitment to the unity of the Syrian land and people, according to the statement.
