Turkey targets 53 villages in northern Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), revealed Friday the outcome of the Turkish attacks on villages across northern Syrian over the past 24 hours.

The Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed factions known as the Syrian National Army (SNA) launched a large-scale attack on villages and towns in northern Syria, as it targeted about 53 villages, the SDF Media Center published on its official website.

The attacks, which came two days after a visit by military officials of the Turkish army to the Syria-Turkey border, put the lives of thousands of civilians at risk, and wounded a woman and a child, as it destroyed vast swathes of agricultural crops.

With hundreds of shells, the Turkish forces and the opposition factions bombed dozens of villages, starting from the countryside of Afrin, passing through the city of Manbij and Kobani, and reaching Ain Issa in the northern countryside of Raqqa, SDF added.

The SDF described the Turkish attacks as a “real translation of the plans of extermination against the people of the region”.

The SDF called on international parties to take a firm stance on these attacks, and called on international human rights organizations to condemn these attacks, and to transfer this issue to international courts.

The SDF also denied the authenticity of news reported by Turkish media outlets about the martyrdom of 21 SDF fighters, stressing that the Turkish forces targeted only civilians.
