Turkey deported 1,323 Syrians in April: Bab al-Hawa crossing
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – The administration of Syria’s Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey revealed on Monday the number of Syrian refugees that Turkey deported to Syria during April.
The administration of Bab-al-Hawa crossing, which is controlled by the Turkish-backed opposition factions, published a statement on social media, saying: “The number of Syrian refugees who were deported from Turkey to northern Syria reached 1,323 during April.”
“The total number of travelers to and from Turkey through Bab al-Hawa border crossing reached 16,160, including 1,988 women and 14,192 men,” the statement added.
Turkey hosts about 4.5 million Syrian refugees, according to official Turkish sources, while unofficial Turkish sources pointed out that there are about 5 million Syrian refugees, some of whom have not been registered.
The Turkish authorities occasionally carry out campaigns to arrest Syrians who are illegally residing in Turkey, and then deport them to Syria.
On May 3, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed plans to send around one million Syrian refugees back to their country.
