Turkish shells pound outskirts of Syria’s Ain Issa

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish forces and the Syrian opposition factions targeted on Monday the western countryside of Ain Issa, a town north of Raqqa, northern Syria, with heavy weapons.

From their bases in the village of Mu’allaq, the Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed armed Syrian factions targeted the village and the M4 Highway in the western countryside of Ain Issa with several shells, an eyewitness told North Press.

The shelling, as a result, caused material losses, the source added.

The shells fell down on the village which is few kilometers from Ain Issa, according to the source.

The source stressed that the shelling began at about 09:30 a.m.

Areas in the countryside of Tel Abyad and Ain Issa in addition to others in northeast Syria are subjected to ongoing shelling launched by the Turkish forces and the affiliated factions despite the signed ceasefire agreements there.

Following the Turkish Peace Spring military operation in Oct. 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements one was with Russia and the other was with the US.

The agreements stipulate halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrol with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.
