Government releases three detainees from Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government released three detainees from Daraa, most of whom were arrested after the settlement agreement they signed with the government in 2018.
“The Syrian government released only three detainees: Wasim Fawaz al-Awdat and Rani Muhammad al-Sibsabi, from the town of Umm al-Mayathen in the eastern countryside of Daraa, and Jamal Abdulbasit Abdullah, from the town of Giza, east of Daraa,” a local source told North Press.
Daraa’s population signed a settlement with the Syrian government under Russia’s auspices. The settlement contained several terms, including the release of detainees and the legalization of the status of persons wanted by security services, as well as paving the way for the return of displaced and refugee residents.
“The released were in Sednaya Prison, and their detention time ranged between three and four years,” the source added.
Two days ago, the government released 72 detainees from Daraa governorate, most of them were in Adra Prison, and it promised that more detainees will be released in the coming days.
