Security chaos continues in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – In the first week of May, security chaos and a number of security incidents were recorded in Daraa and its countryside, southern Syria, in which nine people were killed and wounded, including civilians.

The security services of the Syrian government forces are responsible for the chaos and murders, six months after the government settlements under the Russian mediation were ended, activists in Daraa told North Press.

On Thursday, two members of the government forces were killed by unknown persons, in two separate incidents.

On Thursday, unknown individuals besieged the house of Nidal al-Shaabin, member of the Military Security branch of the government forces, in the village of Saida in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

Al- Shaabin operated within a local group affiliated with the government Military Security branch, which is said to work in drugs’ smuggling in favor of the Lebanese Hezbollah, according to local source.

In a separate incident, local sources told North Press that Muhammad Hassan Nabelsi, a member of the Special Forces Division 15 of the government forces, was killed at the hands of unknown individuals near the village of Tel Shihab in the western countryside of Daraa.

On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen directly fired at the former member of the Syrian opposition Raed Abdurrahman al-Bardan in the town of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa killing him immediately.

Al-Bardan had not joined any military entities following the settlement processes in 2018 after he was subjected to, local sources told North Press.

On Tuesday, local sources said that a civilian was shot dead by unknown gunmen on al-Harak-Karak road in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

Qassem al-Deri was killed after he was shot by unknown assailants, the source added.

Also on Sunday, a member of the Syrian government forces was killed, succumbed to his wounds, when he was targeted by an IED in the city of Izraa in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

On the same day, Ahmed Shafiq Muta’a a member of the State Security Branch in the government forces, was killed in a shooting attack by unknown assailants.

A local source told North Press that Muta’a, hails from the city of al-Hara in the northern countryside of Daraa, was killed on the road between the city of al-Harra and the town of Nimr in the northern countryside of Daraa, after he was shot by unidentified gunmen.

Unknown gunmen killed on Saturday a member of the government forces plus a woman in Daraa.

Qasim Muhammad al-Hoshan, a member of the Military Security branch of the government forces, was shot dead by unknown assailants, local sources told North Press.

On the same day, a woman called Sabah al-Bardan was killed in front of her house by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle in the city of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa

Sabah al-Bardan was the mother of Mohammed Ibrahim al-Rabdawi, a former leader of the opposition factions in Daraa.

The governorate of Daraa has been witnessing chaos and instability, including increasing murders and thefts, since the Syrian government forces entered it in 2018.
