Turkey launches 15 drone attacks on NE Syria in April
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – As the entire world is preoccupied with the Russian-Ukrainian war and its outcomes, Turkey continues to escalate its attacks against residential areas in northeast Syria preparing the ground for a new occupation of new parts.
In a statement released on Friday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said, “The Turkish occupation has recently escalated the attacks against areas in northeast Syria exploiting the international concern with the Russian-Ukrainian war as an absolute mandate to impose a new occupation in the region.”
The SDF statement revealed the toll of the Turkish attacks on northeast Syria during April.
Turkey has recently intensified ground and air attacks in tandem with the “Vengeance for the Two Sheikhs” campaign launched by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
Also the attacks coincided with falsehoods campaigns on Turkish social media platforms that attacked the SDF, according to the statement.
The statement added that the goal of such an escalation is to compel more residents to flee their houses.
With thousands tons of explosives, Turkey targeted inhabitable areas in the countryside of Zarkan (Abu Rasin), Tel Tamr, Ain Issa, Tel Abyad, Manbij and northern Aleppo resulting in massive material losses in lands, public escort and service institutions.
The aforementioned areas were hit with about 596 mortars and artillery shells, according to SDF statistics.
Also 15 drone attacks were documented in addition to three missile attacks and 19 sniping incidents.
As a result, two civilians and five military members lost their lives, 23 civilians were wounded, 36 houses were destroyed, and three service institutions were harmed.
The statement stressed that residents of the region are awaiting for the human rights organizations and the international community to assume their responsibilities and hold Turkey and the Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions accountable for the crimes they have committed.
They called on the international guarantors (US and Russia) for the ceasefire understandings in the region to implement tangible steps that prove they are concerned about preserving safety and stability in the region.
