Government, former opposition members killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Unknown attacks continue to be launched against members of the Syrian government forces and former members of the Syrian opposition in the governorate of Daraa, south Syria, spreading fear and chaos in the region.

On Thursday, unknown individuals besieged the house of Nidal al-Shaabin, member of the Military Security branch of the Syrian government forces, in the village of Saida in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

Following clashes, the attackers shot dead al- Shaabin, wounded one of his brothers, and kidnapped another, local sources told North Press.

Al- Shaabin operated within a local group affiliated with the government Military Security branch, which is said to work in favor of the Lebanese Hezbollah in smuggling drugs, according to the same source.

In a separate incident, local sources told North Press that Muhammad Hassan Nabelsi, a member of the Special Forces Division 15 of the government forces, was killed at the hands of unknown individuals near the village of Tel Shihab in the western countryside of Daraa.

On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen directly fired at the former member of the Syrian opposition Raed Abdurrahman al-Bardan in the town of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa killing him immediately.

Al-Bardan had not joined any military entities following the settlement processes in 2018 after he was subjected to, local sources told North Press.

Also he survived, on May 4, a targeted assassination attempt by unidentified individuals rather he was wounded.

The government forces regained control over Daraa in August 2018 following the first settlement processes under Russian mediation.
