SDC holds symposium on Arab-Kurdish relations in NE Syria

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, organized on Wednesday a seminar to enhance the Arab-Kurdish relations in light of the current developments and challenges in northeast Syria.

The symposium was entitled The importance of Arab-Kurdish relations in light of the current developments and challenges, and was held in  the meeting room of the People’s Assembly in Hajin. The attendees discussed the historical relationships between the two communities.

Anas al-Marfou, member of the SDC Relations Committee in Deir ez-Zor, said “Relations between Arabs and Kurds must be enhanced and strengthened to confront what is being planned against the regions of northeast Syria.”

“We discussed several issues including the historical relations between Arabs and Kurds; when they allied, they made great contributions, the last of which was the defeat of ISIS,” al-Marfou added.

“We also touched on the historical relations between [Arabs and Kurds] before the Ottoman occupation, and how the Ottoman, French, and, British occupations spread the culture of hatred, racism, and strife among the communities as a pretext to intervene in the affairs of the region.”

“But the unity and cohesion of peoples of the region will end this pretext,” he added.
