ISIS claims responsibility for three attacks in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Monday responsibility for three separate attacks against members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and also civilians, carried out a day before, in several areas in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, in eastern Syria.

On April 17, ISIS threatened, via an audio record by the new spokesman of the organization named Abu-Omar al-Muhajir, to increase attacks and vowed revenge over the death the two ISIS leaders Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi and the group’s former spokesman.

A military source from the SDF in the town of Sabha east of Deir ez-Zor said that unidentified attackers targeted an SDF checkpoint near the entrance to the village of Hariza affiliated with the town of Sabha.

In hit and run attack an SDF fighter lost his life and another was wounded, the source added.

Hours later, ISIS, through the ISIS-run Amaq Agency, claimed responsibility for the attack confirming that the attack hit the SDF checkpoint with machineguns killing one and wounding another.

An SDF fighter lost yesterday his life after being shot by unknown armed men in a town in western Deir ez-Zor.

The 30-year-old Majed al-Jaloud was shot dead on the main route in the town of Meheimidah in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, a military source from the SDF said.

Later on, ISIS through close outlets claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a separate incident, unknown armed men riding a motorcycle targeted a civilian with machineguns in the town of Jazara Abu Hamid in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor killing him immediately.

Ali al-Ahmad, a resident of the town, told North Press that the attackers killed the young man Kheder al-Manfi with a silent pistol.

Hours after the attack, ISIS claimed responsibility for attacking al-Manfi under the pretext of dealing with the SDF.

Assassinations and murders in the surrounding countryside of Deir ez-Zor have recently increased targeting the SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal dignitaries and civilians despite intensive security campaigns launched by SDF.
