Infighting in Syria’s Afrin leaves casualties among settlers
ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, a person was killed and another was seriously wounded, in a fight between settlers near al-Qabban roundabout in the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo.
Violent fighting erupted between two groups of settlers (people who were brought from other Syrian areas after the displacement of the indigenous residents of Afrin due to the Turkish invasion in 2018), leading to the killing of a person named Mustafa al-Brash from Rif Dimashq, and the injury of Eid al-Jassim from the Hama countryside, an eyewitness told North Press.
Al-Bursh used to work as a taxi driver in the city of Afrin, and he was hit by a stray bullet, killing him instantly, while al-Jassem was taken to the Military Hospital in the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo.
Following the incident, the city witnessed a military mobilization of the Military Police faction at the scene of the clashes.
Afrin and its countryside, which have been under the control of the Turkish-backed opposition factions since March 2018, are witnessing a state of security chaos, accompanied by explosions and continuous fighting between these factions, amid the inability to control security there.
