Syrian defense systems shot down Israeli missile, Russian Reconciliation Center
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Using a Russian-made-missile, the Syrian air defense systems shot down one Israeli missile out of two missiles fired by Israeli jets against Damascus on Thursday, Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria said yesterday.
“An Israeli air raid targeted several positions in the western countryside of Damascus,” Syrian state news agency SANA said.
“On April 14 at about 23:10, two tactical fighters of the Israeli Air Force (F-16) carried out, from the airspace of Golan, a strike with two guided missiles on sites in the countryside of Damascus,” the center said in a statement yesterday.
“The Syrian air defense systems shot down a missile using a Russian-made Buk M2A missile system. As a result, material damage was reported in a warehouse and no casualties among Syrian or Russian soldiers,” the statement read.
Thursday’s attack was the second such strike in less than a week and eighth since the beginning of 2022.
On April 9, Russia’s Defense Ministry said the Russian-made Syrian anti-air systems intercepted three out of five missiles fired by Israel at targets in Latakia last Saturday.
Israel has staged hundreds of attacks on facilities and weapons in Syria over the years justifying its attacks saying the Iranian presence on its northern frontier is a red line.
