Fasting Ramadan under Turkish shelling in Syria’s Raqqa
AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – People of a town north of Raqqa, northern Syria, feel panic because of the constant shelling by Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ahmad Majid, who is 55 and a resident of Umm al-Huweish village in Ain Issa town, said the objective of Turkey is to spread dismay and fear by barbaric shelling targeting the civilians.
“The Turkish shelling is mostly dropped while people have Iftar meal in early evening or Suhoor meal at dawn. Turkey has blatant intention to cause fears and displace the civilians,” Majid added.
The shelling push people to concern about the possibility of a new Turkish military operation, especially with the increase in the escalation during the last period.
The shelling of the town comes in parallel with the worsening living condition the people endure amid high prices of foodstuff and other materials.
According to reports published by the Media Office of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian armed opposition factions have scaled up attacks and dropped around 45 missiles in just one night in April.
In the few last days, a Turkish bombardment targeted the vicinity of Ain Issa destroying up to 10 houses and other material damage.
The villages of Musheirfa, Khaldiya, Fatsa Sayda, Mu’allaq, Ain Issa IDP camp, the M4 Highway, and the grain silos of Ain Issa are constantly hit by the Turkish forces and their affiliated factions.
Dallah Ali, a resident of Ain Issa, expressed concern and fear of the town’s population adding “we, in the holy month of Ramadan, are targeted occasionally and we do not know what to do. We cannot leave because this is our land and our country.”
