Turkish-backed faction chops down 375 olive trees in Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSDIE, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Turkish-backedSultan Murad Syrian opposition faction chopped down 375 olive trees that belong to two individuals from a village in Afrin countryside, north of Aleppo.

Members of the faction cut down 350 olive trees belonging to Ibrahim Ibish and further 25 trees owned by Jalal Omar,  a local source told North Press.

The faction’s members collected the chopped trees and transferred them to their headquarters in the village of Qazalbash adjacent to Bulbul district. Later, the trees will be exported to the local markets in the region and to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-held areas in Idlib, northwest Syria, the source said. 

Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian opposition armed factions have been controlling Afrin since March 2018.

The opposition factions continue committing violations in the region, including chopping down trees, arrest, abduction and killing of civilians in exchange of ransoms.
