Israel puts condition for Damascus’ return to Arab League
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – Syria’s president Bashar al-Assad should cut all ties with Iran if he wants to be a part of the region and to return to the Arab League, Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Monday.
Recently, Syria has seen more stability and activation between Damascus and the Arab League, the Israeli official said.
“But if al-Assad wants to be a part of the region, he should cut all negative relations with Iran and the terrorism it spreads in Syria,” Gantz said.
Gantz stressed Israel is working against the transfer of arms and the threats Iran poses against Israel in Syria.
Gantz statements were released in a briefing organized by Washington Institute for Near East Policy on Monday.
Israel is seeking to consolidate intelligence cooperation against “Iranian violation” in cooperation with Washington and its regional partners, Gantz said in the briefing.
During the briefing, Gantz viewed Israel’s security policies and touched upon Israel’s relations with the US and the situation in Ukraine.
Gantz also spoke about the Iranian nuclear program and its activities in the region as well as the security escalation in Israel under the latest operations.
