Russian-made systems intercept Israeli missiles in Syria’s Latakia, Russia’s MoD
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russia’s Defense Ministry said yesterday that the Russian-made Syrian anti-air systems intercepted three out of five missiles fired by Israel at targets in Latakia last Saturday.
The Russian statement raised questions among observers regarding its timing and the goal behind clarifying that it was a Russian-made system.
On Saturday, Israel launched an air attack, using F-16 aircrafts, from Lebanese airspace targeting some Military sites in Latakia.
Deputy Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlov, told the Russian TASS news agency, “From 18:45 to 18:52 local time on April 9, four F-16 tactical fighter jets of the Israeli air force fired five guided missiles at facilities on the territory of Syria’s Latakia governorate.”
“The Syrian Air Defense Forces destroyed three of them using the Russian-made S-125 and Pantsir-S systems,” he added.
He pointed out that the Israeli air strikes caused minor damages to some civilian infrastructure, and didn’t claim any lives.
