Missile attack kills Iranian-backed militants in Syria’s Homs desert
HOMS, Syria (North Press) – Four members of the Iranian-backed militias were killed, on Sunday, in a missile attack carried out by unidentified individuals against their headquarters in the town of Taybah in Homs desert, east Syria.
The missile attack targeted a military post of the Iraqi Hezbollah on the outskirts of Taybah town east of Homs, a military source in the 17th Reserve Division of the Syrian government forces said.
As a result, four Iraqi members of the Iranian-backed militias were killed, and they were transferred to Palmyra Military Hospital for their funeral, the source told North Press.
In response, the government forces and the Iranian-backed militias launched a campaign storming and checking houses of the residents and arrested scores of them over charges of being “suspected of carrying out the operation,” according to the source.
The Syrian desert region remains of grave concern to the Iranian-backed militias and the government forces because it witnesses operations by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) sleeper cells that have caused massive losses both parties despite of launching intensive security campaigns.
On Sunday, a member of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) was killed and two others were wounded in an attack targeting their headquarters on the outskirts of the town of al-Hari, east of Abu Kamal, on the Syrian-Iraqi border.
