Syria’s FM calls UN to stop Israeli aggression

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – After repeated Israeli strikes on different locations in Syria, in a letter addressing the United Nations Secretary General, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Mekdad, urged the UN to intervene to stop this aggression in line with the International Law.

In his letter, Mekdad said Syria has the right to respond by the appropriate means in conformity with the International Law and the UN charter.

He further stated that the assaults were reaching the level of systematic attacks, and that this should evoke immediate action by the General Secretariat and the Security Council in order to preserve the Agreement on Disengagement between Syria and Israel signed in 1974 under the auspices of the United Nations.

“Syria has always warned about the implications of the repeated Israeli attacks on international peace and security,” Mekdad added.

Mekdad also explained that if the attacks weren’t condemned, “this would spur Israel to continue and broaden its hostilities on the Syrian soil, let alone that it would question the UN credibility.”

Syria’s call comes after an Israeli attack on Saturday targeted some military sites in central Syria.
