Turkish-backed faction imposes taxes on residents of Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) –  The Turkish-backed al-Hamza Division imposed royalties “taxes” on all people entering Bulbul district in Afrin, north of Aleppo claiming the money was used to buy Ramdan Iftar (breakfast) for the members at the checkpoint.

A special source told North Press that members of the eastern checkpoint in Bulbul which is held by al-Hamza Division have seized the people’s food, vegetables, fruit, and sweets alleging they are for the members Iftar.

Two of the members in charge of the eastern checkpoint who seized the people’s food were identified as Muhammad Daham and Tareq al-Chole, the source said.

Leaders of the Turkish-backed opposition factions continue using intimidation, kidnapping and arrests to impose royalties on the people of Afrin and its countryside.

Afrin in north of Aleppo has been under the control of Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed factions since March 2018.
