Turkish shelling causes large-scale displacement in NE Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Most of Abu Rasin (Zarkan) villages, North of Hasakah, are witnessing a large-scale displacement due to the heavy Turkish shelling since early this year.

Al-khadrawi village used to have 30 houses, now is left with only 15, with a man remaining in each to protect it from plundering, while their families reside in the village of Tel Amir, according to the what some residents of al-khadrawi told North Press.

The source said that out of 500 houses in al-Asadiya village, only 50 houses were left inhabited after most of its residents fled to the village of Mas’ada.

Since the beginning of 2022, 11 people of al-Asadiya lost their lives due to Turkish shelling with no information about the wounded.

As for the village of Musherfa Zarkan, which contains about 30 houses, the people of seven houses have been displaced and the remaining residents flee their homes during the shelling and come back after it stops, according to a resident displaced from the village.

The Turkish selling caused great damage to the villagers’ houses, which have become uninhabitable; even mosques weren’t spared from the shells, according to residents.

On April 5, the house of Fayez Hayawi in Musherfa Zarkan was damaged a lot due to the shelling, but no injuries were reported, according to a source of the village.

There are five more villages on the same line, but North Press has been unable to monitor the displacement rate there.
