Unidentified individuals set school on fire in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A school in the town of al-Gharanij, 90 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, was set on fire by unknown individuals, on Friday.
Layeh Bader School was set on fire by unidentified individuals causing the building to crack in addition to set the books’ store on fire, Ahmad al-Hammad, the follow-up official in al-Gharanij educational center, told North Press.
“Fire broke out after the unidentified individuals sprayed gasoline through a breach the made in a window of the room were books, heaters and the school supplies were stored,” al-Hammad added.
The fire brigade arrived in the site and managed to put out the fire, which almost burned down the whole school, according to al-Hammad.
He stressed the need to hire guards and surround the school with a wall in order to preserve the left supplies of the school.
Residents of areas in Deir ez-Zor call for improving the education reality and assigning guards in the schools that occasionally are subjected to looting and fires.
