We reject Russia’s terms except one, Ukraine’s CG to North Press

ERBIL, Iraq, KRG (North Press) – The Ukrainian consul general in Erbil said, Thursday, in a statement to North Press that his country rejected all Russia’s list of conditions except for not joining NATO.

In a phone call, the general consul in Erbil, Ferhad Shaker, informed North Press about the latest developments of the Russian-Ukrainian war since its beginning on February 24.

“What Russia wanted has not materialized. Perhaps its main objective was to overthrow the Ukrainian government and place a pro-Russian government, but it failed,” the consul general said.

Shaker also pointed out that there has been a change in the war trajectory when the Ukrainian army switched to offence rather than defense and was then able to oust the Russian army from the outskirts of Kyiv toward the north, outside the country.

However, after Russia incurred heavy loses politically, economically and militarily, now it wants to get out with at least one win to save face, according to Shaker.

“The west can provide more support, but what has been given by the US, Britain and other friendly countries helped us at least to solidify our defense lines against the Russian offensive,” the consul general said.

After 42 days of war, which caused an immense destruction and the biggest refugee crises in Europe since World War 2, several rounds of negotiations took place between Moscow and Kyiv that haven’t come up with anything, except some agreements to evacuate civilians trapped in cities like Mariupol.

Shaker stressed that his country rejects Russia’s demands, but not joining NATO could be “possible” as he put it.

The consul general said that the Ukrainian army progress in Urban warfare was inspired by the clashes that took place in north and east Syria against ISIS, especially with more advanced weaponry.
