SDC organizes event in Austria on Syrian detainees
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrians for Detainees and Abductees committee organized on Sunday an event entitled “With You” in the Austrian capital Vienna, to revive the issue of Syrian detainees and shed light on their plight.
Austrian officials, families of detainees, survivors, and Syrian national and human rights figures interested in the issue of Syrian detainees participated in the event,” the official website of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) said.
“The event included an art exhibition that embodied the detainees’ suffering and their cause, in addition to performing plays and playing solo on the lute,” it added.
In a press conference in the city of Qamishli on April 4, 2020, SDC announced the formation of a committee to follow up on the issue of detainees and abductees in Syria and called on the parties to the conflict in Syria to abide by international human rights law and all relevant international laws and treaties.
later, the announced committee established a platform called “Syrians for Detainees and Abductees” to work independently on the issue of detainees, abductees and forcibly disappeared persons by all parties to the conflict in Syria.
“The committee calls for keeping the issue of Syrian detainees under the light until their fate is revealed,” Majdolin Hassan, head of the Syrians Committee for Detainees and Abductees, said in the opening statement of the “With You” event.
Hassan stressed that “the importance of considering the issue of detainees, abductees, missing and forcibly disappeared persons as a humanitarian issue that is above negotiation and away from political disputes.”
