Government, opposition exchange shelling in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the de-escalation zones in northwest Syria witnessed renewed exchange of shelling between the Turkish-backed opposition factions and the government forces in separate places, amid intense flight of Russian reconnaissance planes.
The opposition factions’ sites in the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Aweed, Sufuhn, and Kansafra in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, and the outskirts of Ma’arat al-Naasan, east of Idlib, were hit with heavy artillery and rockets by the government forces, opposition military sources told North Press.
The opposition factions’ sites in the villages and towns of Kafr Noran, Taqad, Kafr Ama, Kafr Ta’al and Ajel, were also bombed by the government forces stationed in the 46th Regiment, west of Aleppo, the sources added.
Meanwhile, military sources in the National Liberation Front told North-Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room bombed the government forces’ sites in the village of al-Malajah, south of Idlib, and the village of Hakoura, west of Hama, with heavy artillery.
The mutual bombardment that took place in northwest Syria came in tandem with the intense flight of Russian reconnaissance planes over the targeted areas, according to the sources.
Despite the entry into force of the de-escalation agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in 2020, northwest Syria has been witnessing military escalation and mutual bombing between the government forces and opposition factions for months.
