Assassinations continue in Syria’s Daraa amidst security chaos
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian southern governorate of Daraa witnessed, last week, assassinations carried out against former members of the Syrian opposition and others affiliated with the Syrian government forces in light of the ongoing security chaos despite the settlement that were implemented in the governorate.
On Thursday, Muhammad al-Itmah, the president of Sanamayn city municipality in the northern countryside of Daraa was killed after being targeted by unknown armed attackers.
“Before the armed attackers managed to run away, they shoot at the municipality president killing him immediately,” a local source told North Press.
Al-Itmah is the 12th president of the municipality to be killed following the Russian-brokered settlements of 2018, according to the source.
Daraa governorate is still witnessing a state of insecurity where seven individuals were killed throughout the governorate of which one was killed in a domestic dispute.
Last Friday, residents of Daraa al-Balad, Tafas, Nawa, Jasim, Tell Shihab, Alajami in the western countryside of Daraa, Da’el town in central Daraa, and Busra in the eastern countryside took to the street calling for “toppling of the regime and the continuation of the revolution” in tandem with the 11th anniversary of the Syrian war.
On Saturday, the young man, Hikmat al-Hourani, was killed by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle while being in the southern neighborhood of Tafas city in the western countryside of Daraa, a local source told North Press.
Al-Hourani was previously a member of the opposition factions, and he had reconciled with the government forces, but he didn’t join the military groups affiliated with the government forces.
On Sunday, residents found body of Samer Hisham Satti, a civilian who did not join any military formations, near the automatic bakery in Tasil town in the western countryside of Daraa, according to sources.
On Monday, the body of the young man Fida’ Muhammad was found on Saham al-Jawlan-Tasil route in the western countryside of Daraa.
On Tuesday, Bilal Muhammad Radi was killed, Tuesday, on the back of a domestic dispute in Nasib village in the eastern countryside.
Also on Tuesday, “The former member of the opposition factions Lawrence Nabil al-Barhoumi, who joined the settlements, was killed by unidentified gunmen in the town of al-Muzayrib, in the western countryside.”
On late Tuesday, Muhammad Maamon al-Shehadat, a former opposition member who did not join any military formation following settlements of 2018, was killed by unknown individuals in Da’el town.
Hussein al-Mufaalani, who joined the ranks of the government Military Security Branch in Daraa, was targeted, on Tuesday at night, with an IED by unidentified attackers in al-Dahia neighborhood in Daraa.
