STJ stresses Syrian opposition to send fighters to Ukraine

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The report by Syrians for Truth and Justice (STJ) in regard to Syrians who register their names of Turkish-backed opposition factions to go and fight in Ukraine is based on live testimonies, Bassam al-Ahmad, the Executive Director of STJ said on Thursday.

STJ published, yesterday, a report saying that several Turkish-backed opposition factions, notably the Sultan Murad Division, registered names of hundreds of veteran fighters, who want to fight in Ukraine.

Today, Hayat Thaeroon for Liberation, affiliated with the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA), denied the information included in the STJ’s report, adding the report aims to discredit the SNA.

“Between 900 and 1000 Syrian fighters registered their names,” STJ’s report read.

The STJ obtained the information from reliable sources, statements and testimonies of members and leaders of the opposition factions, al-Ahmad noted.

Al-Ahmad said he was not surprised that those fighters would join any other battles, because “their history is full of mercenarism as they participated in Libya and Karabakh (Armenia-Azerbaijan war) that were conducted on public and were facilitated and supported by Turkey.

He noted that the information in the report is not to accuse any party, citing at the same time information of another STJ’s report which mentioned that Syrian mercenaries were mobilized to fight in Ukraine in support of Russia.

“The systematic registration of names may be followed by next steps despite the lack of a clear Turkish decision to send them to Ukraine so far. Yet, Turkey does not reject nor prevent the registration of names.
