Syrian government condemns US lifting sanctions on areas out of its control

Damascus, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates released a statement condemning the American administration to exclude some areas in northeast and northwest Syria from the Caesar Act.

Last month, American sources briefed to North Press that Washington intends to lift Caesar Act on northeast and northwest Syria, except the areas controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly al-Nusra Front).

Sana, a news agency run by the state, published the statement as saying “there was news about a new approach by the US administration to exclude the areas in the northeast and northwest of Syria from the illegitimate unilateral coercive measures imposed by Washington on Syria years ago.”

In late 2019, the ex-president Donald Trump signed the Caesar Act, which designates individuals and entities loyal to the Syrian government which Washington accused it committed human rights violations.

“This hypocrisy of the US administration, which is involved in the aggression against Syria to justify its policies which it claims that they aim to improve the mechanism of delivery of humanitarian aid and reduce economic losses to those areas,” the statement added.

“The policy is just a cheap American deception of international legitimacy and the values advocated by the UN in all its resolutions related to Syria, on top respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” the statement said.

In accordance with the coming US decision, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)-held areas and those controlled by the Turkish-backed factions would benefit from the commercial transactions with foreign entities and states.
