Popular movement in Suwayda must be spread throughout Syria: activist

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The public movement in Suwayda must spread to all Syrian territory until the people’s demand to live in dignity is met, an activist from Suwayda said.

In early February, widespread anti-government protests were staged in the wake of the government decision to lift subsidy from the ration card off thousands of families.

“The public movement started after several unfair decisions were issued against the Syrian citizens, including the bread,” Shadi Abu Latif, an activist fromSuwayda said.

Residents of the south of Suwayda closed down bakeries and protested as a natural reaction to the government’s decision, the activist said.

Afterwards, the protest extended.

The big obstacle the public movement faces is that the ordinary citizens are agitated with a view to curb the protest, the activist said.

The activist unfolded that the next step is to maintain the track of the protest and generalize it in every city across Syria so that Syrians live with dignity and the unity of Syria is preserved.

A month following the continuous protest and raising the demands, “we have not received any goodwill initiative by the related authorities in order to sit on the negotiation table. The public movement will go on in order to preserve citizenship and dignity,” the activist said.
