Asayish seize quantity of narcotic pills in Syria’s northeast

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced, during a press conference in Qamishli, northeast Syria, on Tuesday, the seizure of a shipment of narcotic pills intended for smuggling to neighboring countries.

An estimate of two and a half million pills were seized in a building for construction materials, the Asayish said.

The Asayish indicated that foreign parties and some weak-minded people are trying to bring in narcotics into northeastern Syria aiming to hit the social structure and turning the region into a corridor for smuggling drug to neighboring countries.

The Asayish received information that a group affiliated with Turkey had brought in a large amount of narcotic pills, professionally hidden in building blocks (granite, basalt and ceramic stones), through the Syrian interior into northeastern Syria.

The Asayish managed to seize shipments and a warehouse of construction materials, weighing 438 kilograms numbering 2,570,580 narcotic pills.

The arrestees admitted that a shipment of the aforementioned materials had been smuggled to a neighboring country, without naming it, according to the Asayish.
