US Department of State meets leaders of NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Officials of the US Department of State met with leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) of northeast Syria yesterday.
On its official twitter account, the US Department of State said NEA Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Iraq and Iran Jennifer Gavito and the National Security Council (NSC) Director for Syria and Iraq Zehra Bell met with the SDF and the SDC.
The participants discussed the regional stability, intra-Kurdish relations, economic conditions, and the ongoing fight against ISIS, the tweet said.
“Discussions with the SDC focused on the stabilization of the liberated areas in northeast Syria. The discussions included addressing the challenging economic situation, increasing humanitarian access, improving conditions for the IDPs and the importance of human rights and accountability.”
The discussions with the SDF also touched on the ongoing counter-ISIS efforts, security at Hawl Camp, and repatriation and detention needs after the January 20 ISIS attack on Hasakah PrISF Detention Center, the tweet added.
