12 March uprising in Syria was against tyranny, Ilham Ahmad
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, thepresident of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ahmad, stressed the need for change and the democratization in Syria.
“12 March uprising in 2004 that started in the city of Qamishli was against central tyranny of Baath regime,” Ahmad tweeted on the 18th anniversary of the protests that took place in the city.
March 12 marks the 18th anniversary of the Qamishli uprising, which broke out in 2004, where the Syrian intelligence killed more than thirty people in several cities in north and northeastern the country.
“The uprising was a collective memory of the Kurdish awareness and a base for the popular movement in Syria because it extended from Qamishli to Aleppo and Damascus,” she added.
She stressed the importance of the collective action by all Syrians in order to fulfill their ambitions in creating a change and democratization throughout Syria.
Observers believe that the Kurds uprising that erupted in Qamishli and extended to Amuda, Derbasiya, Sere Kaniye, Tirbespiye, Jil Agha, Rmelan, Girke Lege, and Kurdish majority areas in Aleppo and Damascus has been a spark for a revolution against the “tyrannical regime in Damascus”.
