Syrian refugee women celebrate Women’s Day in Iraq’s Erbil
ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Tuesday, Syrian refugee women celebrated in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, the International Women’s Day, by organizing an artistic event inside the social center in Qushtapa camp.
The harshness of refuge did not prevent Syrian women from celebrating their Day, and participating in a range of activities such as handicrafts, plays, folk dances, and poetry competitions.
“We planned this celebration a few days ago, to support the woman and celebrate her Day. I say to women: You are strong, effective and able to face the conditions of life and the harshness of refuge,” the director of the social center in Qushtapa camp, Rawda Fawaz Muhammad, said.
“Syrian women, how to say, is very good. She struggles and works hard for living and her children and for everything. Happy Women Day to u and we hope to celebrated next year in our homeland,” Laila Suleiman, a Syrian refugee woman in Qushtapa camp, told North Press.
“I congratulate every women over the world on Women’s Day.
I t’s a special day for women because it is about her work and struggle. Women have participated in organisations, parties, schools and in everything,” Aziza, a Syrian refugee in KRG, said.
Since 2011, Syrian women have been suffering from a difficult reality imposed by the war. Some of them live as refugees in the camps of neighboring countries. They struggle to raise their children. Some are waiting for a reunion to meet their families.
