Activist killed in south Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A young man was killed and another injured as they were targeted by unknown gunmen yesterday in Daraa city, southern Syria.

Mahmoud Abazid was shot dead by unknown gunmen in al-Qusoor neighborhood in the city center, a local source told North Press.

Another young man, identified as Abdullah Abazid was injured in the same accident.

Mahmoud was a former media activist and worked for news coverage in Daraa before it was controlled by the Syrian government forces in 2018, the source said.  

Mahmoud never joined a military group of the armed opposition, the source added. 

The government forces deploy the most in al-Qusoor neighborhood where a security zone of the government locates.

During the Syrian war, the neighborhood remained under the control of the government forces.  

Recently, multiple assassinations, mostly against former opposition members who underwent a settlement process, have been committed in Daraa. The perpetrators are unidentified and the Syrian government forces have not tried a little bit to uncover the identity of the perpetrators, according to the locals.
