Committee estimating damages inflicted on civilians to constitute in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – This week, the Autonomous Administration in Hasakah region, northeast Syria, started to constitute a committee to estimate the damages inflicted on the civilians’ properties in the neighborhoods adjacent to al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah city, Khabat Suleiman, co-chair of Hasakah Region Council, said on Wednesday.
The committee includes members of the People’s Municipality in the south area, the District Council and the Region Council.
On January 20, up to twenty members of the Islamic State (ISIS) cell launched an attack on al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah, where thousands of ISIS detainees were held. The goal was to free ISIS detainees out from the prison.
Many ISIS inmates managed to escape and hid in the vicinity of the prison where fierce clashes took place and lasted for almost ten days. As a consequence, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) controlled the prison once again with an aerial support from the Global Coalition to defeat ISIS.
During the clashes, several houses in Guweiran and al-Zohour neighborhoods were damaged.
The committee to estimate the damages consists of specialists, technicians and engineers, according to Suleiman.
Once the members complete estimating the damages, the Autonomous Administration will discuss the second phase and send a copy of the outcome of the committee as well as the proposals to the SDF, he said.
Suleiman did not disclose the procedures through which the affected people will be helped and recompensed.
