Mutual shelling between government, opposition continues in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the de-escalation zones in northwest Syria witnessed military escalation and exchange of shelling between the Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions.

The opposition factions’ sites in the town of Afes adjacent to the city of Saraqib in the eastern countryside of Idlib, was hit with heavy artillery by the Syrian government forces stationed in the city of Saraqib , opposition military sources told North Press.

“The bombing resulted in the killing of two people and wounding of others of varying severity, who were transported to medical points near the area,” the sources added.

The opposition factions’ sites in the towns of al-Fatira, Sufuhn, Kafr Aweed and Kansafra in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, were also hit with heavy artillery and missiles by the Syrian government forces.

The opposition factions’ positions in the villages and towns of the western countryside of Aleppo were hit with similar artillery and missile shelling from the Syrian government forces in the nearby 46th Regiment.

The Syrian opposition factions announced bombing the Syrian government forces’ sites in the towns of Urm al-Kubra and Urm al-Soghra, west of Aleppo, and Jabal Abu Ali in Jabal al-Akrad, north of Lattakia.

The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witnesses daily bombardment between the government forces and Turkish-backed opposition factions, without any change in the  territorial control.
