Syrian government takes action to alleviate Russia-Ukraine war on the country
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer protection of the Syrian government started taking some procedures to ensure food commodities in Syria, after the war erupted in Ukraine.
“Russian-Ukrainian crisis is going to affect cargo and remittance from Russia,” said Amr Salem, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection.
“We have taken action to facilitate importing from other sources, and we have reduced taking advances from importers to accelerate import, and finance and food ensuring has been prioritized,” he added.
“Ukrainian war news caused panic in Syrian markets, where some traders raised prices and stored materials,” Salem noted.
He revealed about the availability of wheat and continued daily access of it to Syria, saying, “There are no lack of food, particularly wheat, sugar and rice.”
Earlier, the Syrian government decided to cut down the general spending in an attempt to limit the impacts of the Ukrainian crisis on the Syrian economy.
The government decided to ration the general spending in a way to cover “only” the priorities in this period fearful that prices of fuel and wheat will hike significantly.
