11 members of Iranian-backed militias killed, wounded in Syria’s desert
DIER EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown individuals attacked, yesterday, a convoy of the Iranian-backed militias in Syria’s desert, killing 7 members, including high-ranking officers, and wounding 4 others.
“ISIS militants targeted a military convoy of the Quds Force with shells and heavy weapons which led to the explosion of the military vehicle,” a military source of the Iranian-backed Quds Force said.
The source, who preferred not to be named, added that the attack resulted in the killing of 7 members, including the brigadier general, Mahmoud Shihabi and lieutenant Ali Reyya, in addition to the injury of 4 others. All of them are of Syrian nationality.
After that, the attackers withdrew heading to the depth of Palmyra desert, raising the ISIS flag, according to the source.
The Syrian desert poses a great concern to the Iranian-backed militias and the Syrian government forces, as it has recently witnessed intensive operations by ISIS sleeper cells despite the security campaigns to comb the desert.
Two days ago, a member of the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun was killed in an IED explosion targeted a military vehicle in Palmyra desert.
