QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) arrested at least 88 civilians in Syria’s northern city of Afrin city since the beginning of 2022, the Violation Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) said yesterday.
The real figure is higher as the center could not get access to some cases and also some families withheld to mention the arrest of their members, VDC-NSY said.
During January, the center documented the arrest of 52 civilians in Afrin while further 36 civilians were arrested since the beginning of February.
The Turkish forces and the SNA continue committing widespread violations against the indigenous people represented in arresting people or kidnapping them for exchange of ransoms, the VDC-NSY added.
In addition, the Turkish forces and the SNA continue to cut off olive trees and seize houses and properties of the people of Afrin.
The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.
Since then, the region has been witnessing ongoing security chaos accompanied by infighting among militants of the Turkish-backed factions, arrests, and kidnappings amid the factions’ disability to settle the security and spread safety.
