Former opposition member killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, a former leader of the Syrian opposition was targeted by anonymous people in the western countryside of Darra  governorate, southern Syria.

Jamal Ashraf, known as Abu al-Zein, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Nawa city, local sources told North Press.

Abu al-Zein was hospitalized but he succumbed to his injuries. He had settled his status under the settlement process in 2018 and never joined any military formation afterwards, the sources said.

Assassinations, which are mostly committed by anonymous persons, prevail in Daraa and the common factor in these incidents is that they are carried out against former members of the Syrian opposition.

Hundreds of people have lost their lives since the Syrian government forces controlled Darra although there are many military checkpoints installed on the routes linking the towns and the cities of Darra.
