IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A few days ago, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS formerly al-Nusra Front) executed an elderly man in one of its detention centers in Idlib countryside, northwest of Syria, without handing over his body to his relatives.
On February 12, HTS security apparatus executed the 60-year-old Ahmed Omar Abbous of Kafr Lata village near the city of Ariha, south of Idlib, local sources told North Press.

Yesterday, a member of HTS security apparatus informed the family of Abbous the news of his execution, as a court affiliated with HTS in the city of Ariha confirmed the news, without explaining the reason for the execution, the sources added.
HTS refuses to hand over the body of the elderly, who was arrested in May in his house without revealing the reason for arrest, to his family, according to the sources.
Abbous was a former employee of the Zayzoon Thermal Power Station west of Hama, who defected from the Syrian government at the beginning of the protests in 2011, the sources said.
Human rights reports and organizations have previously talked about HTS’s practices and violations committed in its prisons, including torture, killing, settling scores, and burial in mass graves and places that so far have not been disclosed.
