Political solution of Syrian crisis ‘doomed to failure’, followers

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Politicians and lawyers said Tuesday; the Syrian opposition has failed to fulfill interests of the people, and the political resolution of Syria crisis, the country has been experiencing for over a decade is doomed to failure since the very beginning.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Opposition Negotiation Committee declared it rejected the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen’s initiative “Step for Step” approach.

“The Committee rejects the Step for Step approach as well as its mechanisms which do not lead to the practical and obvious fully implementation of the UN Resolution 2254 (2015).” the Committee said in a statement.

“The political course of the negotiating processes between the opposition and its attachments on one hand and the Syrian government on the other has gone through two controversial tracks,” in a statement to North Press, Ali al-Amin Sewayd, a writer and Syrian oppositionist, said.

“The first path followed the United Nations allegedly  implementing the UN resolutions related to the issue, and the second was the course of the so-called Astana and Sochi peace talks,” Sewayd added.

Opposition lost everything

The Syrian opposition, which is affiliated with Turkey, has failed to achieve any interest of the Syrians who rebelling against the Syrian regime, according to Sewayd.

He noted the UN Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, had at this stage “been creating ideas for his own plan of action in the framework of his mission between the opposition and the Syrian government, including developing the ” Step-for-Step “idea that had been found during de Mistura’s era.”

“However, Pederson himself, according to his statements, does not know what the plan is,” he said.

weeks after Pederson named his unborn plan, the Negotiating Committee had made its decision to reject it, he added.

The “Rejection was the right decision, but it cannot fix what the opposition had ruined by accepting to initially negotiate according to agendas set by the Syrian government, those of Turkey,  and those of Russia and Iran against the will of the Syrian people whom the Syrian National Coalition claims to represent,” he noted.

Today, after years of negotiations, “The Syrian government has managed to restore control over most of the areas that once were run by the opposition.”

“Even most of those, whom it supposed to represent, do not recognize it as a legitimate and independent entity, according  to Sewayd .

‘political resolution is doomed to failure’

On October 22, the 6th round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee concluded without consensus on the fourth constitutional principles, as Pederson said at the final press conference.

During his visit to Damascus today, the UN Special Envoy for Syria is scheduled to meet with the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal Mekdad, and Syrian Constitutional Committee Co-Chair, Ahmad Kuzbari.

“The political process has been doomed to failure since the very beginning,” the political activist and lawyer

“The Syrian crisis is a prolonged issue and resolutions will not be reached unless Syrians agree on common bases for a national action, and recognizing that the best interests of the country is to get rid of al-Assad regime and all the occupiers,” he said.
