Turkish frequent bombing displaces more people in Syria’s Raqqa countryside

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press)  The displacement of residents from the countryside of Tel-Abyad to the camp of Tel al-Saman, north of Raqqa, has increased due to the daily ongoing Turkish bombardment, amid limited capabilities to receive them, Hamid al-Abed, the co-chair of Tel Abyad , said on Sunday.

The recent Turkish escalation on villages in the countryside of Ain Issa town killed a child and man and wounded dozens of residents of those villages and displaced them to cities and camps in northeast Syria.

Tel al-Saman camp, 35 km north of Raqqa, cannot receive the displaced due to the lack of capabilities and sufficient support, especially in the winter, al-Abed told North Press.

“Turkey destroys the most important means of life for the safe population. it follows the policy of Turkification to force the civilians to leave their villages on the front lines, as well as targeting infrastructure and farmland,” he added.

He pointed out that most of the displaced people came from the villages that witnessed almost continuous bombardment, while there are several villages whose residents leave during the intensification of the bombing, and return to them after it stops.

The number of the displaced people from the countryside of Tel- Abyad and Ain Issa has reached hundreds of families who are heading to the camp due to the Turkish escalation on those villages, according to al-Abed.

Tel-Abyad IDP camp has 1,336 tents, and about 1,200 displaced families live in Tel-Abyad, Suluk, Ain Issa and its countryside.

The camp is in need of organizations to support the displaced and provide them with tents, blankets, mattresses, food baskets, heaters and other winter supplies,” according to the camp administration.

A large part of Tel-Abyad’s displaced live in Tel al-Saman camp, others  reside in the vicinity of Ain Issa town, while some of them were displaced to the cities of Raqqa and Kobani.

Al-Abed held Russia, the guarantor of the ceasefire agreement, responsible for the continuous offensive by Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions.

Al-Abed called on the international community, the Security Council, and Russia to ensure a ceasefire in those villages, to reduce displacement of the civilians at this harsh winter.
